I [Heart] Rachel Maddow

September 8, 2008

I’ve been diggin on Maddow since her first Air America radio show, Unfiltered. I started listening for Lizz Winstead and Chuck D but became immediately enamored of Maddow. After Unfiltered disbanded, Rachel got a one-hour morning show that was soon expanded to two hours and eventually moved to an evening slot. At the same time, she began appearing on MSNBC, first as the leftist nemesis on The Situation with that bow tie-wearing schmuck Tucker Carlson, then as a rotating analyst on a variety of shows. Most recently, she’s been the bane of Pat Buchanan’s existence on MSNBC’s primary returns shows all spring, and she’s guest-hosted Olbermann’s Countdown on a few occasions.

And now she has her own show!

The wonder of Rachel Maddow is that she is at once terribly incisive (she was a Rhodes scholar alongside, incidentally, her chum Corey Booker) and light-heartedly good-natured. She takes her job and career seriously without taking herself too seriously. And because she’s affable without compromising her analysis, she now has the keys to MSNBC’s 9p slot, making her (probably) the most-left voice on cable.

Here she is irking Joe Scarborough by not letting him interrupt her…notice that he’s walked off the set by the end of the segment.

So tune in to MSNBC tonight at 8p to see Obama on Countdown, then stick around – and come back every night – for Rachel Maddow at 9p.

1. Green Bay 13-3 (Don’t let the door hit you on the Favre)

AFC North
